A Suite from the Cloud Forest
Eric Ewazen

Cat.#10073
$15.00
|
Editor's choice. This is one of the finest examples of duet literature we've heard. Its four
movements are a programmatic description of fur images found in the tropical cloud forest: Movement 1, The Resplendent
Quetzel, depicts a spectacular bird of paradise with beautiful melodies over cascading arpeggios in an impressionistic
style. Movement 2, Gumbo Limbo is a fabulous variation on the 1950's tune The Limbo. This movement is very rhythmically
challenging and is truly inventive. Movement 3, Poor Man's Umbrella describes a plant with large floppy leaves. The
melodies a hauntingly beautiful and go through a series of keys culminating in an intense series of fortissimo chords.
Movement 4, Kiskadee describes a bird whose call sounds like its name. Kiskadee's rhythm is a quarter-eighth-dotted quarter.
This very fast movement in various compound meters is very exciting. This is highly idiomatic piano writing for the piano
with an impressionistic flair. This piece has universal appeal and is a major addition to the repertoire. Ewazen teaches
at the Juilliard School, and receives many commissions for new works.

Commissioned by the Arlington Texas Music Teachers Association, Uncle Funk is a funky and fun duet
that keeps students counting. The melodies are very catchy, and students love the rhythmic drive. The parts are well balanced,
but the secondo player plays most of the funky vamps. This is one of our best selling duets.

Eleven Clapping Duets
Peter Arnstein

Cat.#10077
$6.00
|
Claps are written into the music to introduce a percussive sound mixed with the ordinary piano
sound, so the mood is lightened with a bit of humor. Each piece is short and is a rhythmic coordination drill. These are
very funny, especially Recital Mosquitos where the players pretend to be attacked by these pesky critters and still attempt
to play. The titles are: Three Footed Giant, The Mysterious F-Sharp, Down at the End, Clap After A, Tipsy Clappy, Tangled
Hands, Recital Mosquitos, Clapping Waltz Flower, Countdowns, The Symmetrical Clap, Hoarse Horse on a Coarse Course.

Old Forge Festival Polka
Arthur Frackenpohl

Cat.#10133
$5.00
|
This exciting piece conjures up images of old festivals where there were picnics and dancing,
although this is not a frivolous work. There are some tough syncopations and tricky scale passages. The B section has a
lyrical syncopated melody which appears in canonic form between the primo and the secondo. There are quartal and quintal
harmonies throughout the piece. The coda begins slowly with hints of previous material in a ballad-like style, only to
end with the opening theme played very fast. Since there are rhythmic complexities between the parts, a score is included.

Jazz Suite for Two
Jon Grier

$8.00
|
This jazz suite contains five movements: Bald-Faced Boogie, Blue Tuesday, Sunnin' Spot,
Crescent City, and Riff-Raff. Blue Tuesday is a slow jazz waltz with some lovely harmonies. Riff-Raff
is very driving
with palm slaps used for effect. Sunnin' Spot and Crescent City are syncopated and depict pleasant places.
The boogie
has a melody which appears in tight short units as if trading fours in improvising. A fun work for high school players.
