From our Music by Young People series, this lovely violin duet is a programmatic work
about a boy's encounter with a waterfall. He floats contentedly until he comes to a grand waterfall. He moves
cautiously towards it. He gets closer to the falling water as it drums on his head. He experiences a freedom
such as the water has. The piece begins in 5/4 and shifts to 3/4. The melodies are modal. There are trills and
glissandos which depict the flow of the water. This piece was the runner-up in a California MTA high school
competition.
