Americana for Brass Trio

Henry Wolking

Editor’s choice. A marvelously written work for one of the most difficult textures in brass chamber music. Each of the four movements represents a melodic and stylistic approach to music that is uniquely American  Cedar Flute Song was composed on a traditional Sioux (Lakota) cedar flute and is written in the style of tribal music using this flute for ritual and recreational music. Bluebell Variations based on The Bluebells of Scotland was a popular turn of the century style park band piece. Salsa emerged in the US in the 1960’s as a new combination of Latin, jazz, and rock.  Dah Do Daht, is a swing style movement mimicking scat singing. One of the best works for brass trio that we produce.
