Simon Sargon
Sargon has written an intense three-movement work which thoroughly depicts its title. It was written for pianist and composer David Karp. The movements are fast, slow, fast. The first movement is an exciting rhythmic diaplay with many meter changes. Movement 2 has large, lush chords in Piano 2, while Piano does an articulated series of broken thirds. The middle section becomes more lyrical. The third movemenet puts punctuated chords against scale patterns in intense rhythmic patterns. The harmony can be described as extended tonality. Many parts are hauntingly beautiful. This is an excellent choice for a university two-piano concert.Recommended.
