Description

Lullaby for Carrieanne for Solo Piano

Seymour Bernstein

A favorite among performing pianists of all ages, this piece was written to celebrate the birth of a daughter Carrieann to one of Seymour Bernstein’s pupils. With it’s Spanish flavor, the piece weaves around fragments of the well-known nursery rhyme, “Ring Around the Rosy.” Seymour Bernstein writes “freely, a reverie” at the beginning of this four page piece. He takes the short quote of the familiar children’s refrain and weaves it into lovely meandering melodic phrases of varying lengths. Each hand has wonderful parts to play-arpeggios, double-thirds, and meandering triplets. The piece is based on a Gb tonal center but goes through temporary shifts to other key areas. This would be an excellent choice for contemporary music festivals with its unique melodic manipulation.
