Description
Psalm 8 for Three Brass Choirs and Organ
Heinrich Schütz
arranged by David Baldwin
For 3 brass choirs and organ (2 trumpet, 2 flugelhorn, 4 horn, 3 trombone, euphonium, tuba, organ). Schütz was Giovanni Gabrieli’s best student who took Gabrieli’s antiphonal ideas a step further. A superb example of antiphonal writing, this piece was originally a three-choir vocal work with basso continuo. As a brass transcription it can be done effectively without the organ which doubles the vocal lines. When a good organ is available its use is recommended as this makes the piece really stunning. Psalm 8 is easy to put together.
