Tubist Keith Mehlan has transcribed Mozart’s well-known movement from the Sonata in A major, K. 331. “Alla Turca ” compositions were popular in 18th century Austria, imitating the Turkish Janissary bands. The long 16th note passages of the third theme are a workout. Mehlan has captured Mozart’s grace and humor in this delightful version for tuba-euphonium quartet.
