Description
Two Pieces
Heinrich Isaac
trans. James Wehr
Renaissance composer Isaac’s music is of a very international character and flavor. The first is called Between Mountain and Deep Valley and was originally written for four voices as a German part song. Canzona, the second, was written for unspecified instruments according to the practice of the time. Both of the pieces foreshadow the Baroque fugue in the manner in which the opening themes are presented to the listener. The dynamics do not appear in the original manuscripts and are editorial here.
