This allegretto is in alternating 3/8 and 2/4 time (keys of Bb and Eb) and employs lots of jaunty rhythms which interchange between players in canonic fashion.
The first movement resembles a short toccata, the second creates a full luxurious texture that implies a much larger instrumentation and the third movement is Stravinskyesque in nature with a dry, brittle rhythmic drive.
