Description
Old Forge Festival Polka for Piano Duet
Arthur Frackenpohl
This exciting piece conjures up images of old festivals where there were picnics and dancing, although this is not a frivolous work. There are some tough syncopations and tricky scale passages. The B section has a lyrical syncopated melody which appears in canonic form between the primo and the secondo. There are quartal and quintal harmonies throughout the piece. The coda begins slowly with hints of previous material in a ballad-like style, only to end with the opening theme played very fast. Since there are rhythmic complexities between the parts, a score is included.
