Birch and Carol Feather Martin, Variants is based on three favorite hymns; Fairest Lord Jesus, Great is Thy Faithfulness, and Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us. Suitable for church work but most effective in recitals, Variants is a significant addition to the flugelhorn/trumpet repertoire.Pascuzzi had the flugelhorn in mind when he wrote the piece, but he feels it works perfectly well on trumpet. You could do the first section on flugel, and switch to the trumpet for the concluding section. Interesting and challenging piano part.
