Description

Le Fils de Porthos for Four Trumpets

Henri Senée

from the Streitwieser Foundation of Historical Trumpet Collections

This fanfare is written for three trumpets and Basse which could appropriately be played on the timpani, trombone, or both. The score indicates the piece is written for four trumpets, so the fourth part could have originally been for a bass trumpet. That part could be played an octave higher and it will have an antiphonal effect because its rhythms are in opposition to the other voices. It was written for the famous Garde Republicaine, and dates from the days of Napoleon. The piece is typical of French Army music. Timpani could also be added. Printed in score form.
