Movement 1, Lettuce and Tomato Response to Light is reminiscent of time-lapse photography taken of sprouting plants. Alpenglow, second movement, uses mutes for contrasting textures, and depicts changing colors on mountain peaks caused by the setting sun. and Leviathans Past and Present was inspired by the fascination that children find in large animals.
